Laurus Kindergarten’s curriculum is based on two pillars: the Laurus Innovator Education and the Cambridge International Curriculum.

Laurus Innovator Education

English

Class

Students build a solid foundation in the key areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Following the internationally recognised Phonics reading and writing program, students are provided a systematic and logical framework for development. JAPEC speaking and listening tests track child growth to ensure no-one is left behind.

Language Arts

Class

Language Arts has a wide-ranging remit for the ‘opening circle’ component of the schedule. Language Arts includes language and vocabulary building, show and tell and various review activities/discussions that expand upon concepts taught within core subjects.

Social Studies

Laurus introduces bespoke units that start by students learning about themselves and expanding outwards towards looking at the world around them, learning basic skills needed in life and required in order to learn more about these topics in the future.

Math

Stimulating Math classes challenge students with hands-on activities to do and real-world problems to solve. Children develop strategies to find solutions to problems via engaging and intuitive lessons that foster interaction with mathematical concepts in a variety of ways.

Self-expression and creativity are encouraged in art classes that utilize various forms of media and work to supplement and enhance the rest of the curriculum including science, social studies and seasonal crafts and activities.

Class

At Laurus International, we put great importance on Science and the scientific process. We encourage students to use logic and empower them with the skills to carry out their own experiments and investigations. The curriculum covers all the fundamental disciplines, including Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Earth Sciences.

STEM(Year 1~)

Teacher

Class

Students alternate between months of programming and other STEM activities. STEM activities focus on engaging in Project Based Learning to research and engineer a solution to a real-world problem, connected to other subject areas being explored at the time.

ICT(Year 1~)

Teacher

Class

Students use online resources in ICT to hone their keyboarding skills. It is important that these classroom activities are linked to real-world concepts so that students can transfer their proficiency to higher grades and beyond.

PE, Karate

Teacher

Specialist

Class

Expertise is provided by dedicated teachers in P.E. and Karate. P.E. covers topics such as balance, body awareness, movement, coordination, free running and tumbling (gymnastics) while discipline and self-control are instilled in Karate lessons via a nonviolent form of martial arts called Shotokan.

Music

Teacher

Class

Active, holistic and play-based musical activities from our specialist music teachers inspire students to develop skill sets and understanding in areas such as beat and tempo, loud and quiet sounds, high and low pitch, musical structure and timbre.

PROJECT BASED LEARNING

Project Based Learning (PBL) is an effort to solve real-world problems by working on a single project over a period of weeks or months. Students learn across subject areas of math, science, E&T, and social studies.

This PBL is based on the Process of Engineering. Students learn through the process of discussing a problem, imagining a solution, making a plan, creating a prototype, testing and improving it, and sharing it with others.
ex) How can we survive on and escape from a deserted island?
