The Paleolithic Age was a time before recorded history but we know a great deal about it from the fossil evidence left behind by early humans. It was a time when humans developed many tools from stone to help in their daily lives. 

While the story behind the first ever wheel remains a mystery, we know that humans have been using them to move items for thousands of years. We will discuss what we think the first wheels could have been made from and how they work. With our craft, we will discover the many ways that we can propel a vehicle forward using wheels and various forces of energy.

In preschool, we will be crafting their very own wheelbarrow and we will be challenging our adventurers to load and transport items using their new cool tool just like what our ancestors did thousands of years ago.

The Bronze Age is so named as humankind’s ability to harness resources from the earth took a sizable step forward with many developments in using metal and glass to evolve technology in ways unheard of before.

We will learn about the history of magnifying glasses and how they were first used to focus sunlight as fire starters around 400 BC before finally evolving into optical lenses and eyeglasses around the 13th century and finally telescopes and microscopes.

Our craft will teach us about how a convex lens refracts (bends) light inward to a focal point and makes objects seen through the lens appear larger than they actually are. This same concept is also what allows sunlight to be focused into something similar to a laser.

In preschool, we will create and design our own  magnifying lens and embark on a quest to create our own discovery book, filled with drawing, discoveries, and observations.

The Classical Antiquity Age was a huge step forward in our understanding of the world around us as well as the universe beyond. From the concepts of stars, planets and moons being in a constant circular state of motion to the creation of more intricate machines that could help us tell time.

It was also a time of creation for machines capable of devastating destruction. Machines such as the catapult which could hurl massive stones and boulders over great distances.

Our craft will focus on a small scale version of these machines but with no intent to hurt or destroy. Instead, we will use the fantastic idea of the catapult to play games and learn about the momentum and velocity that is created through powerful levers.

In preschool, we will  build our own catapult. Our little explorers will put their skills to the test with exciting aiming and launching challenges.

The Medieval Age (or Middle Ages) saw hundreds of innovations for art, science and technology. It was a time where many science and technology-minded people could conceive of ideas beyond their current capabilities by hundreds of years.

There were large steps forward in approaches to farming, irrigation and machines of war but probably the most important innovation was in the form of printing presses that could produce copies of books and documents which were then shared.

Our craft will focus on the idea of a printing press for art where we will design a block stamp that can create the same pattern over and over again.

In preschool, we will get an opportunity to make unique designs on their own pouches and experiment with colors, patterns, and designs.

Nowadays, it is extremely common to see a phone in the hand of every teenager and adult. These devices are ubiquitous in our modern lives and allow us to communicate with anyone in the world as well as store and access information and entertainment.

Our current phones and other technologies can communicate with each other through invisible vibrations that travel airwaves.

This wasn’t always the case which we will learn about through our craft. With our string telephones, we will discover how to use wires as a way for the vibrations of sound to travel on and allow us to communicate with each other over short distances.

In preschool, we will use our imagination and design our personal telephone. We will enjoy fun and interactive games like pretend play and number hunting.

Non-Laurus Students: The deadline for tuition fee payments is 11 March. Please complete your application and payment before the deadline.

①5 hours course   9:00 am – 2:00 pm

②Full Day course   8:30 am – 6:00 pm

※Students may participate from 1 day to 5 days.

※There is an extra charge of 2,000 yen per half an hour for pick up after 18:00, so please be there before your time.

・Please put your child’s name in English on all their belongings.

・Drink (water bottle), spoon, folk and/or chopsticks,  indoor shoes, extra clothes, plastic bags for dirty clothes.

⚠️For non-members：A copy of Insurance card & free medical care certificates and a photo of your child (Please upload by our application form).

⚠️Under 3 years old：An apron for lunch, 6 diapers and baby wipes

⚠️Full Day students：2 bath towels / blankets(Only children who need a nap), 2 diapers as extra, snack

・Please make sure to bring your own lunch as allergy-friendly lunches are not available during seasonal events.

・We cannot accept students who need an Epinephrine auto-injector, have had anaphylactic shock more than twice or have had febrile seizures more than 3 times.

*Important notice: If you wish to take the 15:30 bus, please book the full day course.
If you wish to take the bus from the Laurus Primary School bus stop, you can only take the Yellow bus departing at 8:10 and arriving at 15:45.

※We are very sorry for your inconvenience but the following school bus routes are fully booked and will not be accepting applications:

Aoyama School – Preschool – Monday, Tuesday, Friday – Pick Up (morning) Bus

*A cancellation / Changing fee of 1,000 yen will be charged.

*It isn’t possible to make changes after the closing date.

· A reservation is required for class observations and school tours. Please contact our school’s receptionists in advance to arrange these visits.
· If you are unable to pick up your child at 6pm, there will be an extra charge of 2,000 yen per half hour.
· As administering medication to our students is defined as a “medical practice” under Japanese law, teachers and school staff are not able to give medicine to our students. Therefore, in principle, we are supposed not to keep any kinds of medicine at the school.
· If you are an overseas resident, please ensure your children are covered by overseas travel insurance. If your child / children do not have overseas travel insurance and your child / children are sick or injured during our STEAM Seasonal Camp, you will be responsible for your child / children’s medical expenses.

·Please refrain from coming to school if your child has a fever over 37.5°, rash, cough or bad diarrhea.  In the case of fever or head bruising, please wait at least 24 hours after the symptoms have subsided before attending school.

·In order to avoid adverse reactions happening at school, please do not bring your child to school if you have a vaccination appointment scheduled before the school day begins.

This is our measure to prevent infection. Thank you for your understanding.

・The temperature of all children will be taken daily.

・Students will wash hands carefully after playing and before eating.

・All staff will wear disposable gloves when serving meals.

・Tables, chairs and toys will be disinfected frequently.

・Door knobs, railings, walls, and switches will be disinfected frequently.

・Toilet and diaper mats will be disinfected frequently.

・Air purifiers will be used throughout the schools.

・Chairs and handrails in the school bus will be disinfected frequently.

・When the school bus is in operation, windows beside the driver’s seat and staff seating will be open to provide ventilation.

For Parents and caregivers:

*Please cooperate with the temperature measurement at home.

*Please refrain from going to school if your child or family members has a fever of 37.5 ℃ or higher, or if you have severe cold symptoms such as a cough. Please wait 24 hours after the fever has passed and ensure that other symptoms have disappeared before returning to school.

*If your child’s physical condition changes at school, we will contact you immediately, so please be available to pick up your child in a timely manner.

Requests related to coronavirus infection:

*Please do not participate until you have been infected with the new coronavirus and at least 5 days after the onset of illness.

Please note: Due to the above reasons, we will not accept refunds for cancellation on the day.
